Common Suffixes for the Drugs



Most of the drugs end in a suffix which can lead us to the group/class of drug it belongs to. Given below are the suffixes which can help you know which  class the drug belongs. For example: Beta blockers like Propanolol, Metoprolol ends in the suffix "-lol". Its just the general rule and has exception as not all the drugs in the class would end in the given suffixes. The table however doesn’t explain if the drugs are selective or non-selective. These are some of the most used drugs and it is good to know which drugs belongs to which class.
